Hi, I’m Kate

A woman sitting in a red kayak holding a camera in a marshy area with tall grass and trees.
A woman with brown hair and fair skin smiling, wearing a white shirt and a long necklace, sitting on a leather chair in front of a wall with a wooden world map.

Photographer, Navy veteran, and visual storyteller. I specialize in nature, adventure, and documentary photography, with a focus on capturing raw environments and the human stories that unfold within them.

Before photography, I spent six years in Navy intelligence as a Russian linguist and analyst. This path that taught me how to work under pressure and adapt quickly in unfamiliar environments, but more importantly, I learned what I am not built for — fluorescent lights, fixed schedules, and a life disconnected from creativity and movement. What I wanted was something more dynamic, creative, and connected to the world around me.

Even earlier, I was a professional violinist for three years, performing solo and with bands while running my own creative business.

I'm currently studying photojournalism and documentary film at Rochester Institute of Technology. My creative process is shaped by a deep love for the outdoors, a desire to tell honest stories, and a need to move — whether I’m hiking, climbing, kayaking, or chasing light on foot.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me biking, climbing, or watering my ever-growing jungle of houseplants.

What am I working on right now?

This summer I am hiking the 46 Adirondack High Peaks, kayaking the 11 Finger Lakes, and biking the Erie Canal from Buffalo to Albany to reconnect with the wild parts of myself. It’s a journey of healing, joy, and rediscovery.
